Thinking of attending a worship service at the CNC Church, but not sure what to expect? We realize that visiting a new church can be a little intimidating, so we'd like to answer some common questions.
What's the preaching like? At Corvallis Church of the Nazarene, it is our sincere desire to share God's Word in all it's truth without watering anything down, but to do it in love, and in ways that are interesting, engaging and relevant to your daily life. While the Bible certainly does convict us of our sin in order to point out our lost condition, the overarching theme of the entire Bible is God's unconditional love for all humankind, as is shown by God sending His precious Son, Jesus, to pay the price for our sin. If you attend one of our services, you will hear the truths of God's Word presented passionately, clearly, and lovingly in ways that will make sense to you. But why not find out for yourself? Listen online now!
What time do your services start? We have morning service each Sunday from 9:30 to 11:00am, and Christian Life and Fellowship (sunday school) following the morning service until 12:00. We also meet on Wednesday nights at 6:30 to 7:30pm for adult bible studies. To see a list of our gathering times, Click here.
What kind of music do you sing? This is a common question. A huge debate has arisen in churches over whether traditional music or contemporary music is "right." We believe that God has inspired people throughout the ages to write hymns and songs of praise and that He continues to inspire musicians from all generations to write music that praises Him and brings glory to His name. We believe that debates regarding styles of music are more a matter of personal preference than anything else. In appreciation of that, we want to give worshippers an option to choose the style of worship they prefer. Our contemporary worship service uses a blend of music styles to glorify God. We have not abandoned the familiar hymns for newer music. Instead, you will hear a great mix of new and old music - plenty of songs you know and love; popular contemporary Christian music, original compositions, old gospel favorites, and some traditional music. The setting is more casual and led by our Worship Team. The focus of the worship services is to bring glory to God and to support and encourage every worshipper in their journey of faith. Do I have to dress up? No, you don't. We encourage people to dress comfortably. For some, that may mean dressing up, but for most it simply means wearing casual clothes. Contrary to church tradition, the New Testament clearly teaches us that the church building is not the "house of God." It is nothing more than a building. The New Testament simply instructs us to dress modestly and decently, so we do not burden people unnecessarily by requiring them to dress up in fancy clothes they do not normally wear just to "go to church."We want everyone to come, be comfortable, and enjoy learning about God together.
Do you have Childcare? Your children will love the NazDome! We provide fun, hands-on Bible lessons and activities every Sunday morning designed especially to help them learn the truths of the Bible. We also provide a safe, cozy nursery for infants through pre-school. Our children's ministry leaders are parents just like you who value every child and treat them with the utmost care and attention.
Will I have to stand up in front of people? Some churches call on their visitors to stand up during the service and introduce themselves. While the people at Corvallis Nazarene Church are genuinely interested in getting to know you and make you feel welcome, we will never call on you or embarrass you in any way. You can relax and enjoy meeting people at your own pace.
I still have questions... Feel free to contact us, and we'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
